Three Candles Journal

Three candles journal, published continuously online since 1999, is one of the oldest literary journals on the Internet. It began with a dream, as most things do, and came to fruition with the help of a few friends following a major surgery. The site, which began at a nominal 1500 hits per month, has risen to exceed 50,000 hits per month. A medium that has seen very little respect is now commonly considered to be a viable alternative medium to traditional print publishing. Over the years the journal has published poems by Ray Gonzalez, David Trinidad, Nancy Eimers, Deborah Keenan, Jim Moore, and others. There is also an invitation-only poetry workshop associated with the journal so that poets early in their careers can build and participate in a peer-based community. Editing this journal has been one of the most rewarding projects in my life.

Three Candles Press

Three candles press was begun in 2005 as an extension of the journal. As with the journal it was something I dreamed about for a long time before taking the first pragmatic steps to make it a reality. The first book produced was an anthology called Digerati: 20 Contemporary Poets in the Virtual World and featured ten poems by each of twenty contemporary poets. 2006 saw the publication of three poetry titles. I hope to continue publishing three titles per year, one of them the winner from the previous year's contest.

Poetry 365

Poetry 365 will debut in September 2006. A daily site similar to other popular daily poetry sites, it will feature poems culled exclusively from published poetry. The site was created as a showcase for a range of contemporary poetry. With these three sites in place, I hope to gain more exposure to the entire spectrum and process of creating and publishing contemporary poetry.
